Our story

A note from Buford and Gertrude’s parents…..

Like many parents out there, our children are the apple of our eye. We love them, adore them, and plaster their adorable faces all over social media feeds. We also realize our children may look a little different than yours, and we hope you are open to the idea that just because we didn’t physically spawn Buford or Gertrude, doesn’t make them any less our children.  While our mini-mes may have four stubby legs, shed incessantly,  and communicate via snorts, squeals, and howls, they are and always will be our children.

Be it personality, behaviors, or appearance, most children resemble their parents to some degree, and Buford and Gertrude are no exception.  Buford has his mom’s complexion, stub legs, and warmheartedness mixed with his dad’s calm nature, ever-lasting loyalty, and at times, couch-potato tendencies. On the other paw, Gertrude gets her firecracker energy, steadfast determination, and bull-headed wits from her mom, and definitely inherited her dad’s athletic abilities, speedy metabolism, and protective intuition. And maybe most importantly, both children have the same love for Chipotle burrito bowls that their parents do (and show their excitement by spinning in circles and barking until they each get to lick out the remnants of the bowl).

We are the first to admit we are a unique and uncanny family, and we embrace all aspects of this as fitting the mold isn’t what happiness means to us.  And while the look and feel of happiness is dynamic and subjective, it is incredibly hard to look at a wrinkly face, bulging eye, tilted head pug with a dancing curly tail and not have a wave of happiness wash over you.  In the hopes of adding a little more happiness and quirk to your life, we welcome you to Rolls and Wrinkles: the chronicles and curly tales of Buford and Gertrude.

Their stories……

Buford is a 6 ½-year-old fawn pug with an old soul and a heart of gold. He is an OG who previously lived on the streets and was adopted almost four years ago. He may have started from the bottom, but he is so grateful to be here (most of the times here being within a one foot radius of mommy or daddy’s lap). The streets may have took away his hearing, but Bufe is the most lovable, quirky, calm, and appreciative little guy anyone could ask for.  While Bufe’s early days were riddled with itchy skin and allergies, he has conquered all of that with his special diet and weekly spa days (one of his favs, a combo of brushies, bathies, and blow dry). While on his walkies, Bufe will sometimes pause as if to take a moment to reflect on his life; although he cannot erase his past life, he is so thankful to have his family. His docile demeanor, loving personality, and adorable head-tilt are just a few ways he shows his infinite gratitude. His favorite activities are eating, sleeping, couch-potatoing, napping, getting treats, chewies, sitting by his parents, army-crawling, butt-scooting, and being loved.  Aliases: Bufe, Bufey, Kabufe

Gertrude is a 15-month-old black pug who is equal parts spunky, sassy, smart, and sweet. She has been part of the family since she was 8 weeks old, and while she may be the smallest member she has the biggest personality in the house. Her birth parents were both small pugs, yet, she was the runt of the litter and resembles a “micro-pug.” Her size may be deceiving but she is fearless, tenacious, and operates at high-octane. Gerdie loves to be the center of attention, craves curiosity, and is a millennial at heart.  She is definitely a fashionista and enjoys wearing a variety of petite pup apparel (she even picks out her favs). After she celebrated her first birthday, her manners started to improve tenfold and her pug-isms became more apparent. When she throttles down, she turns into the cutest cuddlebug and will curl up with her brother or bundle under the blankies in mommy or daddy’s arms.  Her favorite activities are eating, fetching, playing with toys, wearing girlie outfits, chasing her brother, getting treats, chewies, running around the apartment like a wide receiver, and being loved. Aliases: Gerdie, Gerts, Gerdle/Berdle, Kaberts
